A Salvation Worth Celebrating! | Exodus 23:14-19
It’s nearly December, and for South Africans that means that the whole country pretty much shuts down goes into party mode for the entire month! Lots of time to spend with friends and family, eats lots of good food and unwind from the stressful year that we have had. Relax, rest and recuperate ahead of a whole new year that lies ahead.
Last week we reached the end of the book of the covenant, containing the civil laws of Israel, the practical application of the Ten Commandments. In this sermon, we look at some of the ceremonial laws that God gave to Israel. These were the laws that governed how Israel was to worship him. In particular, we look at three feasts that the Lord instituted for Israel to celebrate. While these feasts were times of relaxation, feasting, eating and drinking, they were not meant as celebrations for celebrations sake. Rather they were meant to remind God’s people of his goodness to them, of how he saved and delivered them graciously from slavery and provided them generously with a land of their own and that he continued to sustain them. What we’ll see in this sermon is that because God has graciously saved us in Christ, we are to live lives for his glory, of gratitude and celebration.
