The God who is Faithful and True - Genesis 31

Jacob has been living in a foreign, hostile land – outside of the land he was promised by God – for about 20 years now. His father-in-law, Laban, has been taking advantage of him, dealing with him in a dishonourable way. His brother, Esau has threatened to kill him if he returns home. Perhaps he thought that he would never return home – forever condemned to live in this foreign land as a second-class citizen?

But now we see that the time is right. God keeps his promise to Jacob, that he will indeed dwell in the promised land. God delivers Jacob from the treachery of Laban and takes him back home. What we will see from this morning’s text is that because the true God is faithful, we can trust him with our whole heart.
