The Third Commandment: Hallowed Be Thy Name | Exodus 20:7

How we speak about people reveals what we really think of them. If we’re always pulling them down, gossiping about them, treating them with disrespect, we betray our true feelings towards them. On the other hand, if we speak kindly about someone, only sing their
praises and honour them with our words, it shows our respect and love for them.

In this sermon, we’ll be looking at the Third Commandment. This Commandment speaks into the way in which we speak about God and how we use his name. Like our speech about others reveals our heart towards them, our speech about God shows up what we really
think about him. Since the Lord is infinitely more important than any person on earth, we need to take care how we use his name – and not take it in vain. What we’re going to see is that because the Lord is holy, we are to hallow his name, we are to respect his name.
