What was this mystery? It is what this passage in Ephesians 3 calls the “Mystery of Christ” (v.4). It’s because of this mystery that any of us sitting here tonight know Jesus Christ and are counted among God’s chosen people. The nature of this mystery is that believing Gentiles are now included among God’s people, which is no longer exclusively Jewish. May seem obvious to us now, but as we saw last week, it was a revolutionary change in the early church.

In our text this evening, we see the Apostle Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, praying an incredible prayer. Essence of the prayer is that we’d somehow grasp the magnitude of God’s love for us in Christ. It’s Paul’s perspective of God’s greatness and power that really initiates his magnificent prayer. He gets this truth that our vision of God directly impacts how and what we pray for. Specifically for Paul in his prayer, he realises that because of God’s greatness, we are able to be strengthened in the magnitude of the love of Christ.

What God is saying to us in our text tonight, through the Apostle Paul, is that despite all the messiness and divisions and conflicts in the church, the church is still united in Christ. What we will see this evening is that living a worthy life and therefore having unity in the church, flows from having been called by God. Our unity in the church is rooted in God himself.

It’s this point that Paul is hitting home to us in our passage this evening. Yes, we’ve received the gospel, this gift of grace. Gospel doesn’t leave us in our old way of living in sins, instead it empowers us to stop a lifestyle of sin and live for the glory of God.
Because you are in Christ, have received the gospel, turn from your sin and pursue righteousness.

Walk in Love - Ephesians 4:25-5:2

This is what we see in this Ephesians passage – law in the NT (law = what you must do, grace = what God has done). Paul in the previous section has explained to us that now in Christ we are new creations, created after the likeness of God (4:24). This means that we must now put off the old man of sin. In this passage he’s showing us practically what that looks like – how to live as a new creation in Christ, in the church.
He’s saying to us that – because you are a new creation in Christ, you must walk in love. This passage is showing us what walking in love actually looks like, specifically in the life of the church.

At the heart of what God is saying to us tonight in his Word is that because we are saints, believers in Christ, we are not to share in the sinful practices of the world. We are to live in the world, but not be of it.

What Paul is encouraging us to do in the midst of living in this dark world with all its temptations, is to instead walk wisely – walk in the Spirit. Don’t fall for the ways of the world which are foolishness, but walk according to the wisdom of God, be filled with the Holy Spirit!
So the main idea here tonight is that, because the days are evil, walk wisely, in the Spirit.

Paul address here how Christian husbands and their wives are to treat each other. He gives us a model for marriage relations here. For Christians, husbands and wives are not to treat one another randomly, as they see fit, or as the culture dictates. No, how husband and wife relate to each other is directly rooted in how Christ relates to his church. Direct link throughout. First see how wives are relate to their husbands. Secondly, how husbands to relate to their wives.
