In most movies and series that you watch these days, you’ll typically see two people who fall in love and then almost immediately they’re sleeping together, quite obviously not married. This quick progression is presented absolutely natural and normal. In fact what is portrayed as abnormal and unnatural is people who wait until marriage. The sad thing is that this view in not just in the movies, but has almost been adopted wholesale by most people, even many professing Christians unfortunately, as our culture has been very effective at catechising us in this regard.
What this all betrays is frankly a very low view of sex and ultimately marriage. Sex is too often seen as something common, purely a bodily function, something that you do for convenience sake with whomever you are in love at a particular time, with commitment being optional.
In stark contrast to this popular low view of sex and marriage, God’s view of sex is infinitely higher. He has designed it to be something special and sacred to be shared between husband and wife in order to draw them closer, as one flesh, in their life-long covenant bond of love, to bear fruit, to multiply their joy and intimacy and to bring him glory. It is precisely for these reasons that the Seventh Commandment prohibits the desecration of the marriage bed. The command to not commit adultery not only prohibits adultery, but has implications for all sexual conduct. What we’ll see in this sermon is that because God created the institution of marriage, we are to jealously guard the marriage bed.

It would be no exaggeration to say that these days, the family is under attack. Divorce rates are sky high. There are many single parents who are raising their children and families that are dysfunctional. Children are broken by their parents’ divorce and adultery, which has a huge impact on their relationship with their parents. On top of this, the culture is normalising perversion - same-sex relationships, transgenderism – actively encouraging children to embrace this wickedness and evil, even if it means rejecting the authority, wisdom and guidance of their parents.
In this sermon we look at the Fifth Commandment: honour your father and mother. In the midst of a world which is showing increasing distain for healthy families, for the honour of parents, God’s Word shines a light into this present darkness. Indeed God really cares about families because he created them. This Commandment shows us God’s will for how children are to relate to their parents. But as we’ll see, it speaks into more than just thefamily. In fact, this Commandment applies to all authority that God has established. We’ll see that because God has blessed us with parents and other figures of authority, and established them as authority figures in our lives, we are to honour and obey them.
Preacher: Rev. Antonio Coppola.

We live in an incredibly fast-paced world. We’re constantly bombarded with information through social media, TV and 24 hour news networks. Many of our jobs are demanding more of us, demanding that we work longer and longer hours. If you have kids at school, their schools are demanding more of them – more homework, endless extra mural activities and sports that encroach on the little free time that is available.
The result? Huge increase in depression, divorce, burn out, broken families and Christians having very little time for God, prayer, worship and meaningful study of his Word. This generation of Christians is one of the most biblically illiterate generations to have ever lived, despite the fact that the Bible is the most accessible that it’s ever been in any era of human history.
In this sermon, we look at the Fourth Commandment concerning the Sabbath. It matters to God how we work and how we rest. In fact, our working and resting rhythms are to be rooted in the pattern that God himself has established. In the midst of a busy, burnt out world, God has graciously provided us with the gift and blessing of the Sabbath, one day of the week where we are able to find true rest and peace in God himself. What we’re going to see is that because God rested on the Sabbath, because he blessed it and made it holy, we are to keep the Lord’s day holy, finding our rest in Christ.
Preacher: Rev. Antonio Coppola.

How we speak about people reveals what we really think of them. If we’re always pulling them down, gossiping about them, treating them with disrespect, we betray our true feelings towards them. On the other hand, if we speak kindly about someone, only sing theirpraises and honour them with our words, it shows our respect and love for them.
In this sermon, we’ll be looking at the Third Commandment. This Commandment speaks into the way in which we speak about God and how we use his name. Like our speech about others reveals our heart towards them, our speech about God shows up what we reallythink about him. Since the Lord is infinitely more important than any person on earth, we need to take care how we use his name – and not take it in vain. What we’re going to see is that because the Lord is holy, we are to hallow his name, we are to respect his name.
